Your Courageous Life

across mediums: an experiment in radical creativity

across mediums, an e-course

So raise your hand if you’re someone who…

* hoards art supplies, telling herself that she’ll use them (and then somehow that doesn’t happen).

* secretly longs to quit her day job and spend long days sketching or painting or collaging at a studio desk.

* gets totally inspired when she buys the canvas at the art store, then feels paralyzed with fear or resistance when it’s time to sit down.

* someone who makes the first brush or pen stroke, sighs and thinks, “That sucks,” maybe gives it another few minutes and then gives up.

* would love to do something creative, but doesn’t have the time or money to go to art school.

* would love to do something creative, but doesn’t want to have people critique her work–why can’t it just be fun?

* would love to create lots of artwork, but what would one do with it once it’s finished?

* is creative on a regular basis, but has a “been there, done that” feeling about most projects and is looking for something new.

* promises herself that this time, she’ll finish that sketchbook and yet…yet…yet…

Across Mediums :: digital book + creative abandon

Across Mediums is a downloadable e-book course with a lesson-by-lesson format designed to get you to bring out those hoarded art supplies, meet the resistance head-on, let go of the inner critic, and create for the sake of creating. Dive in with just twenty minutes a day to break the old “Story” that you have to quit your day job in order to be an artist. The purpose of the course is not to complete a finished piece–it’s to dive in, get messy, get inspired, break out of a creative rut, try something completely and totally new, and totally detach from the artistic process as a process that can be overwhelmingly perfectionistic.

“The course encouraged a sense of playfulness and taking a wide view of your art practice, both things that I want ot keep reminding myself of in my studio practice. I also think the simple repetition, the daily discovery of what you can exactly do with 20 minutes is useful for those of us who fall into the trap of saying or thinking we don’t have enough time.” –A.W.

how long does it take?

As long as you’d like it to take. Enough with falling behind in e-courses, already! The design of the book is such that lessons are laid out in a sequence that can be followed several at a time in one big artistic free-for-all, or day by day in bits and pieces. Each exercise will guide you through the process of taking a specific action on a focused piece–though you won’t be limited in any way as to how the piece looks. Taking the process in small steps, such as just twenty minutes a day, is encouraged as part of making room for creativity in your life without adding to an already full schedule. Plus there’s no pressure to “keep up” with lessons online. Want to learn more? Check out this downloadable PDF to learn more about this downloadable course in creativity. “I feel far more courageous about showing my art…Today I did something I would not have been brave enough to do two weeks ago. I loaned eight of my original, mixed-media collages to the local library. They are prominently displayed in a glass case on the first floor. When I walked away from that case today, I didn’t worry that people might not like them or might say, ‘Those suck.’ I simply felt proud.” –T.P.
