It's time. It's time to let go of the complaints, the moaning, the resentment, the boredom, the passionless attitude. It's time to see what else is out there for you, for your career. Quite possibly, it's possible that what's out there is that you don't have to move anywhere--your current job might be a perfectly good experience with some minor tweaking. It also might be time to let go and fly the coop. But which is it? How do you know? How can you tell that you aren't just blaming your job for some other problem in your life? How can you be sure that the job is really the issue? How can you know that whatever you decide to transition into won't also be difficult? No one has that answer for you--and there are good questions that you can ask yourself to discover more. Consider it a process, a journey that you are undertaking. The journey involves getting solid on your role at your current job--what's your part in why this job sucks? It also involves looking at the things external to you--what, outside of your control, could possibly be negotiated so that going to work felt easier? And finally, how can you leave your current job with integrity and a good idea of where you want to go next, feeling solid that you aren't just avoiding problems or leaving one job only to ensnare yourself in another negative situation? Take the "Stop the Job Suckage Challenge!" by visiting http://www.yourcourageouslife.com/blog/ from January 1-10th, 2010. A series of exercises, practices, and questions will be posed to help you clarify where you want to take your career in 2010. Even if you are very clear that you want to leave your current job, some of these steps will help ease the doldrums or conflict that you might think you "have to" put up with until you finally make your exit. There are other ways to live than waking up five days a week, not wanting to go to work. Are you ready to see that that's like? See you there! |
